
Bone Broth Made Easy

Bones, vegetables, vinegar and water! THAT IS IT!
Bone broth is super easy to make and has incredible healing powers…
It is soothing and nourishing to the mind, body and soul. Bone broth contains important nutrients such as collagen, gelatin, glycine, proline, glutamine, various minerals. These are all very healing to the gut lining, and when we have a happy digestive system the rest of the body will be smiling too!
Ingredients
- 3 chicken carcasses
- 2 bay leaves
- 2-3 carrots chopped
- 1 onion chopped
- 3-4 celery stalks chopped
- 2 garlic cloves (optional)
- 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar (needed for mineral extraction from bone and vegetables)
- A few pinches of quality salt
- Fresh ground pepper
- Enough water to cover everything
A note on bones to use:
- The best are bones to use have connective tissue, joints, marrow, ribs, necks, backs, feet or a variety of these (buuuut, don't let this stop you, as you can use any bones)
- When using a carcass from a roast chicken use right away or freeze until you are ready to make a broth!
- Keep your bones from a roast rather than throwing them away!
- When using raw bones, roast at 400 degrees F for 25 minutes until brown.
- This will bring out the FLAVOR! Oh yeah, we love flavor ;)
Instructions
- Add everything to a crock pot, pressure cooker or stovetop turn it up until it is boiling.
- Cover with a crack in the lid
- Now you want to simmer…
- Crockpot: 12 - 24 hours on low (you want it to be bubbling with a simmer)
- Stovetop: 8 - 12 hours on low
- Pressure Cooker: 2 hours on high
- *Add in Reishi, Schisandra berries or Astragalus 2-3 hours before broth is finished! (optional)
Allow to cool before storage!
Notes
- Bigger bones take longer, like big beef bones
- Chicken is my favorite for flavor
- If you drink bone broth and you have any reactions such as: itchy skin, watery eyes, flushing, sinus change you may want to look into histamine rich foods and histamine intolerance to see if you may be reacting to histamine?
Storage
- Always allow your broth to cool.
- Keep in fridge and use within 3 days
- Freeze in glass jars. If you use glass jars leave at least an inch for the liquid to expand (or else you will break the jar.)
I store some in the fridge and then I put the rest into silicone ice cube trays, freeze them and put the into plastic bags for easy use later!
